Defensive prospects in draft for Jets
The Jets could look to score one of these defensive difference-makers in Thursday's draft:
Despite his short arms (31.5 inches), the Jets are high on Ingram, whose versatility on the line is a big bonus. He started only one season in college, however, registering 10 sacks last year. Has uncanny speed and athleticism for a big guy, but physical limitations may hinder him in the draft.
Coples, who visited the Jets on Wednesday, had 17.5 sacks in his final two seasons with the Tar Heels after being moved from tackle midway through last season. In doing so, he proved his versatility, but his inconsistency raises questions. Still, Coples has the height, arm length and burst to be a beast on the edge.
Upshaw's stock is slipping -- quickly. Considered a potentially imposing outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, his fluctuating weight could scare off potential suitors. Best attributes are his physical strength and explosion, especially against the run.
The big guy blew scouts away at the combine, posting a 4.92 time in the 40. But production is the issue with Poe, who had just one sack and one forced fumble last season. Still, he's a great combination of size, strength and athleticism.
Cox has raw talent and major potential as a playmaker on the interior. He likely will provide a big boost to whichever defensive line he joins, but his tendency to rely too heavily on his athleticism could hinder him.
