Derrick Mason tweets he's a Jet

Rex Ryan said Derrick Mason would probably have to leave some money on the table if he was going to be a Jet. Apparently, the veteran wide receiver did just that.

Mason, released by the Ravens last week in an effort to clear room on the salary cap, announced on his Twitter page Saturday that he’s agreed to sign with the Jets. He’ll likely be third on the wide receiver depth chart behind Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress.

The 37-year-old took a physical with the Jets on Thursday, and had been mulling his options since. He was also drawing interest from the Ravens, who were hopeful of bringing him back at a reduced rate, as well as his other former team, the Titans. 

“Jet fuel is full time to fly!!!!!” Mason tweeted. “Going from one young gun to another!!”

Mason had 61 receptions for 802 yards and seven touchdowns with the Ravens last season. When word spread last Thursday that Mason was a possibility, Burress seemed eager at the prospect of adding the 14-year pro who’s recorded eight 1,000-yard receiving seasons. 

“I know he’s hungry to win a championship and he can definitely be one of those guys that come in here and help us win,” Burress said. “He’s a veteran guy, he’s consistent, he plays hard, he has great hands, great work ethic. So I have a lot of respect for D-Mase."
