Early practice report
Here’s an encouraging sign for you Jets fans: Darrelle Revis was back on the practice field participating in position and team drills.
Revis, who was officially ruled out of Sunday’s game against Buffalo, hadn’t participated in practice prior to Friday because of his strained hamstring.
With the Jets’ best defensive player limited by injury – and rookie cornerback Kyle Wilson still struggling – the team’s not backing backing down from its decision to start Drew Coleman.
“Drew is really the guy that stepped up and proved that he’s capable (of making plays), just like he did last year,” defensive coordinator Mike Pettine said during his Thursday press conference. “His performance last year went unnoticed and then he gave up a few catches to (Wes) Welker in Game Two and everybody was down on Drew Coleman when a lot of those weren’t really on him.
"When you look at Drew’s body of work last year, he did a solid job for us. That’s why we didn’t hesitate to put him in there to stop the bleeding a little bit on Sunday night and that’s why he’s going to be part of what we do this Sunday."
Speaking of Coleman, he intercepted a deep pass from QB Mark Brunell to David Clowney on the far side of the indoor practice field. That should give the kid some confidence.
In other practice news, Calvin Pace (foot) took part in position drills, and right tackle Damien Woody, who was excused the past two days because of a “personal issue,” practiced, too.
Jamaal Westerman was on the sideline, but there was no sign of Wayne Hunter (shin).
