So much for the Animal House mentality here in Florham Park.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune’s “NFL Arrest Database” (no, I’m not kidding), the Jets actually have the fewest arrests in the AFC East since January 2009.

Based on the report, the Miami Dolphins have 6 arrests, the Buffalo Bills have 5, and both the New England Patriots and the Jets have one each.

(The lone Jets’ arrest being Braylon Edwards' DWI charge, of course.)

“That embarrasses me a little bit,” coach Rex Ryan said of the way his team has been portrayed. “Maybe from afar people can judge it that way. We picked up some guys that maybe had something happen previously or whatever. When we get them in here, we welcome everybody with open arms. What you’ve done in the past is the past. We’ve all done things in the past that maybe we’re not so proud of – I know I have. But here we accept you and you’re a part of us.

“It was embarrassing to me that we had an arrest. There’s no question. I’m not picking on Braylon. The other thing is, the guys know that I support them. We’re not going to turn our back on players.

“…It's interesting that that stat came out. That’s good, because we have a lot of character in this team. I think one of the reasons I did “Hard Knocks” is I wanted people to see the men we have on our football team. I’m not saying we’re perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but we do try to be perfect off the field.”
