For a change, Jets' Tomlinson enjoying preseason
Many players loathe the preseason. LaDainian Tomlinson is loving every second of it.
The future Hall of Famer has looked pretty good, gaining 43 yards on 11 carries in two games. He broke off a 20-yard run on the first series of the Jets' 9-3 win over the Panthers on Saturday night, finishing with 26 yards on three carries.
As a Charger, Tomlinson didn't play during preseason from 2006-08. Now he can't seem to get enough of it.
"I'm enjoying it," he said. "You can see that I'm having fun and playing with these guys. But I've always wanted to play in preseason. Unfortunately, the last few years, the coach just wouldn't let me play.
"But now I'm getting an opportunity to play, and I think it helps when the season starts. It helps you be able to hit the ground running. So I'm looking forward to that.''
Folk: Best foot forward
Nick Folk appears fully cured of his case of spring hiccups. He made his three field-goal tries against the Panthers, from 43, 36 and 49 yards. He's 6-for-7 in preseason, and his kickoffs are landing in the end zone nearly every time.
He struggled during organized team activities and the first day of minicamp, but he's found his form. The Jets think they have a keeper in Folk.
"Yeah, I think so," Rex Ryan said. "That's what we've been saying. I know we never believed it that first minicamp. The guy's been doing great. So no surprise he's been nailing the ball."
Happy homecoming
After two-plus weeks of training camp in Cortland, the Jets will practice at their Florham Park, N.J., facility Monday. The players are thrilled.
"Yeah, a lot of guys need to see their families, speaking for myself," Jerricho Cotchery said. "But it will be good to be back in our facility and get some good work in this week.''
