Garrett Wilson’s season is officially over.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn announced on Friday that Wilson will be shut down for the remainder of the season. This comes as little surprise. He has been on injured reserve since Week 11 because of a knee injury.

Glenn said he spoke to the doctors and Wilson and it was decided that the best thing would be for him to continue to rest and rehab and come back strong next season.

“We’re going to hold him out for the season and he’ll be ready to go as the offseason program starts up, and I’m excited about that,” Glenn said. “We just felt that was best for him and for us as a team.”

This was the first time Wilson missed games in his four NFL seasons. He was trying to become the first Jet to record four straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons. In seven games this season, he totaled 36 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns.

Wilson, who signed a four-year, $130 million extension in July, initially was hurt in the Jets’ Week 6 loss to Denver in London. He returned two games later and got hurt again against the Browns.

“He’s doing really, really well as far as rehab,” Glenn said. “We want to be smart with him because he’s a key cog of what we’re doing here. To be able to get him back for the offseason program fully healthy and ready to go, we felt like that was the best decision for all of us.”
