Greene: I would've benched myself after fumble

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Shonn Greene was disgusted with the way he put the ball on the turf twice in Monday's season-opening loss, so much so that he might've even benched himself.
"I don't think I would've put myself back in after that performance," Greene said Wednesday.
The second-year running back carried five times for 18 yards in the first half and didn't carry again. He made an appearance in the fourth quarter but failed to grab a short pass from quarterback Mark Sanchez on the Jets' second full possession of the quarter.
"I pretty much expected it," Greene said. "During the preseason we had problems with turnovers and stuff and they pretty much said if you fumble the ball, you are going to be out of the game."
Greene plowed into left guard Matt Slauson's backside, which dislodged the ball. The Ravens cashed in with an 11-play, 76-yard drive for a 7-6 lead.
"I take that loss on my shoulders," Greene said. "That was a key moment in the game, that fumble, and it turned into a touchdown for Baltimore. So, I put that pretty much on my shoulders.
"You can't fumble," he added, "at a key time like that in a football game against a team like that."
Pace on the mend
Calvin Pace, still recovering from Aug. 30 surgery to repair a broken bone in his right foot, expects to start walking without his protective boot Thursday.
"Now, it's just a matter of my body, when my foot tells me, 'OK, it's cool for you to go back out,' " Pace said. " . . . I wish I could give you a date. The doctors couldn't give me a date, either. It's just kind of a waiting game."
Extra points
The Jets signed DT Howard Green and placed Kris Jenkins on IR . . . Rex Ryan said there are no immediate plans to sign Adalius Thomas.
