The Jacksonville Jaguars have released ex-Jet Drew Colmen.
The roster move was announced by the team Thursday morning, according to multiple reports.
Coleman signed a three-year, $7.4 million free agent deal last year and was set to earn $1.575 million this season. He played in all 16 games in 2011 and recorded 30 tackles, nine passes defensed, two interceptions and two sacks.
He was a decent nickelback for the Jags, especially in blitz situations off the edge. But Jacksonville signed former Giant CB Aaron Ross this past offseason, re-signed CB Rashean Mathis and drafted Florida State corner Mike Harris this past weekend.
So could this move signal a reunion between Coleman and his former club?
Perhaps. Rex Ryan does love his cornerbacks ...Plus, Coleman could add depth to a unit that already features Darrelle Revis (a potential holdout candidate), Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson.
Coleman played in 67 games during his five-year tenure with the Jets, registering 84 tackles, 18 passes defensed, six sacks and two interceptions.
The Jets also have cornerbacks Ellis Lankster, Isaiah Trufant and Julian Posey, plus Dwight Lowery is an unrestricted free agent.
