Jenkins looking good in practice so far
CORTLAND, N.Y. - There was a smiling, familiar face among the defensive linemen Wednesday.
Kris Jenkins was taken off the active/physically unable to perform list and practiced in the morning and afternoon, signaling that he's nearly all the way back from left ACL surgery.
"I'm not trying to toot my own horn or anything," Jenkins said, "but I've always had an overinflated confidence in myself. I just felt confident that I was going to be able to bounce back because I've been through the surgery before with the right knee and I handled that well.
"I knew that I'm not at Mark Brunell's age yet and my body can recover fairly quickly."
Jenkins, who was nursing a hamstring injury, did individual work and was in running drills during the team portions. He sat out the team passing drills because he didn't want to put too much strain on his knee.
"It was fun just to watch him play," Rex Ryan said. "He's moving great. He looks terrific, and again, his weight's down. But it was like, 'Wow.' I thought he'd be a little more tentative and it's just the opposite. It was just like he was riding a bike and it's great to see."
His to lose?
The Jets have several candidates to serve as the punt returner, but Ryan has one person who he'd like to see win the job: cornerback Kyle Wilson.
"You've got a young explosive rookie; he can catch the ball," Ryan said. "I think that's another thing that Kyle does. He can help us in our sub package and he's also a guy that can be an outstanding returner. So I'm excited to see how he does in the preseason."
