MAX EFFORT
Rookie right tackle Max Mitchell, a surprise starter, will have his hands full against Cleveland’s vaunted pass rush, featuring Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney.
Mitchell may see more Clowney than Garrett, who usually plays right end, but does move around some. Mitchell is preparing for the challenge.
“That’s an amazing opportunity,” Mitchell said. “That’s how you get status. ‘Oh, he held up against this guy, he might be the real deal.’ I’m looking at it as an opportunity.”
A fourth-round pick out of Louisiana, Mitchell wasn’t expected to play much, let alone be a starter this season. Injuries to Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown opened the door for Mitchell, who matched up with veteran Calais Campbell in Week 1.
Mitchell said he felt like he “handled himself pretty well” last week and is trying to build off of that.
“He did really well,” Robert Saleh said. “He’s going to be a very good tackle for a very long time.”
ALL BARK, LITTLE BITE
Carl Lawson doesn’t feel Cleveland’s famed ‘Dawg Pound’ is all that loud. Lawson played for Auburn and said NFL stadiums don’t compare to SEC games.
“This is no shot at Cleveland,” Lawson said. “I came out of the SEC. I came to the NFL and I was like, ‘Wow this is nowhere near as loud as that.’ ”
JOE’S SHOW
Joe Flacco is 17-3 lifetime against the Browns, including 8-2 in Cleveland. This was all as a member of the Ravens. Flacco is 0-6 as the Jets’ starting quarterback, since 2020.
