FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Robert Saleh said all the Jets’ starters would see action when the team faces the Giants on Sunday in the preseason finale.

Yes, even you, Carl Lawson!

The defensive lineman thought he was going to play in the preseason opener against the Eagles earlier this month but was told right before game time that he would not.

Lawson was not happy about it but accepted the decision and waited until now for his chance to show fans what they have missed since he tore an Achilles tendon last Aug. 19, ending his first Jets season before it started.

“I am happy with the fact that I'm improving physically, mentally, spiritually each day,” he said after practice on Wednesday. “So I'm pleased with that. But I'll never be satisfied with where I'm at.”

Lawson was having an excellent camp in 2021 after signing a three-year, $45-million contract as a free agent, then hurt himself rushing Aaron Rodgers during a joint practice with the Packers.

The last time Lawson played in a game was Jan. 3, 2021, his final appearance for the Bengals.

The Jets have been cautious with Lawson throughout the offseason and camp. But he believes he is ready to go.

He said he had pregame jitters before the Green & White Scrimmage earlier this month but believes that mental hurdle is behind him.

Asked about personal goals for 2022, he said he would like to have 100 sacks — more than four times the current single-season record.

Lawson was exaggerating. But he does not want to sell himself short.

Asked about his return to game action growing near, he said, “I mean, it’s great. It’s great and it’s humbling.”
