The dreams of thousands of would-be NFL hopefuls were dashed Friday, as teams began shaping their final rosters before the 9 p.m. deadline.

The Jets had 75 players coming into Thursday night’s preseason finale loss to the Eagles. But by morning, word of their initial roster cuts already was circulating.

The Jets reportedly have cut WRs Joseph Collins and Eron Riley; DBs Julian Posey, D’Anton Lynn (son of running backs coach Anthony Lynn), Donnie Fletcher and LeQuan Lewis; LBs Ricky Sapp and Marcus Dowtin, DLs Jay Richardson, Damon Harrison and Martin Tevaseu; OLs Matt Kroul, Robert T. Griffin, Paul Cornick and Fred Koloto; TE Tarren Lloyd and P Spencer Lanning.

As expected, QB Matt Simms also was reportedly cut.

Koloto's agent, Howard Shatsky, confirmed via Twitter that his player was released.

Players waived Thursday and Friday are eligible to be claimed off waivers on Saturday at 12 p.m.
