The Jets fined linebacker Bart Scott $10,000 for making an obscene gesture at a photographer in the locker room Monday.
In a statement announcing the fine, the Jets said: "Bart's actions were inappropriate and unacceptable."
The NFL has looked into the incident but won't further discipline Scott because the Jets took action and levied the fine themselves.
Newsday reported Monday that Scott, who took a $1-million pay cut in August from his initial salary of roughly $5 million, likely won't be back next season.
Asked Monday as he exited the locker room if he'll indeed be gone, Scott said: "I don't know why. I've got a guaranteed contract for $4 million."
Scott's playing time was reduced this past season. He was replaced by Josh Mauga on certain passing downs and other situations.
This marked the second time in a little more than two years that the Jets have fined a member of the organization for an obscene gesture. In 2010, coach Rex Ryan was hit with a $50,000 fine for his actions at a mixed martial arts event in South Florida.
