Geno Smith is inactive after all.

That means, Matt Simms – who was signed off the practice squad on Saturday – will be the No. 2 quarterback behind starter Michael Vick.

Smith, who was recently demoted in favor of Vick, tested out his sore right shoulder in front of general manager John Idzik and head trainer John Mellody during pre-game warmups. But the team ultimately decided to sit their struggling second-round pick.

Sunday’s game against the Chiefs (4-3) will be the first regular-season start for Vick in over a year. It's also an opportunity for the 1-7 Jets to get back in the win column after losing seven straight.

Simms, who spent the 2013 season as the backup to Smith, has been on the Jets’ practice squad all season. He made three appearances last year in relief of Smith, finishing 16-for-31 for 156 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

In addition to Smith, cornerback Darrin Walls (who did not travel) is also inactive for the Jets. So are Walter Powell, IK Enemkpali, Dakota Dozier, Wesley Johnson and T.J. Barnes.
