Jets' Holmes thinks Edwards can become superstar

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - When Santonio Holmes was shipped here from Pittsburgh, he knew right away just how scary good the Jets' receivers could be. But one caught his attention rather quickly: Braylon Edwards.

"My first impression of Braylon was that he has the potential to be the No. 1 receiver in the NFL," Holmes said Tuesday. "A few things he needs to work on and I talked to him about it, came to him like a man."

That's essentially what Holmes did with his other position mates. He assured them early on that he wasn't looking to crash the party. He just wants to be a part of it.

" 'Look, I'm not coming out here to try to steal nobody's shine,' " Holmes said he told them. " 'I just want to work and I'm going to compete with you guys, and I'm going to help you out as much as possible. I'm going to talk to you about the things you are doing wrong and I expect the same thing from ya'll.'

" . . . I'm going to be a team-first guy."

Test-drive time

The Jets will hold a public practice at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Meadowlands Stadium, and Rex Ryan can't wait to see players' faces when they get their first peek at their $1.6-billion home.

"I'm excited about the guys that haven't been there yet because I was there and was blown away," Ryan said. "I remember texting my wife, saying, 'Oh my God. I'm the head coach of this team in this stadium?' I mean, that's amazing.

"I haven't been in a finer stadium. Now I haven't see Dallas yet because I heard that's unreal. But hopefully we'll get there."

As in this season, because Cowboys Stadium is the site of Super Bowl XLV.
