The Jets aren’t looking for only a new defensive coordinator. Six other positions have opened up on Aaron Glenn’s staff.
Glenn fired quarterbacks coach Charles London, passing game coordinator Scott Turner, defensive line coach Eric Washington, linebackers coach Aaron Curry and defensive assistants Alonso Escalante and Roosevelt Williams, a league source confirmed on Friday.
These moves don’t come as much of a surprise. Changes were expected after the Jets went 3-14 and underperformed or underachieved on both sides of the ball.
The Jets plan to build a better infrastructure to develop a quarterback after Justin Fields failed to live up to Glenn’s expectations. They likely will draft a quarterback this year and next.
Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand is staying on.
Defensive coordinator Steve Wilks was fired with three games left in the season and replaced by Chris Harris.
The Jets have interviewed eight known candidates for that position: Harris, Wink Martindale, Jim Leonhard, Darone Jones, Jim O’Neill, Mathieu Araujo, DeMarcus Covington and Ephraim Banda.
The Jets now have six other positions to fill as well.
