The Jets made it official today, announcing the signing of rugby player Hayden Smith.
Smith, who played rugby for the England-based Saracens club team, projects as a tight end even though he’s never played a single down of football in his life. The Jets are intrigued by the potential of Smith, who turns 27 Tuesday, measures out at 6-6, 265 pounds and reportedly runs a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash.
Smith played basketball at Divison II's Metropolitan State in Denver and fell in love with rugby, first suiting up for the U.S. national team before climbing up the international professional ranks.
