A day after placing tight end Konrad Reuland (knee) on injured reserve, the Jets announced Wednesday that they signed fourth-year linebacker Jermaine Cunningham to the active roster.

Cunningham, a Florida product, was a second-round pick of the Patriots in 2010. He played in 36 games (14 starts) with 3.5 sacks for New England from 2010-12. He also spent a few weeks with the 49ers before being released last month.

Cunningham will wear Ricky Sapp's old No. 55.

Reuland took pride in his versatility and known best for being the 'garbage man,' doing all the little things on offense. But his impact on the passing game was practically nonexistent. He had just 12 catches for 90 yards in 25 games.
