Electing not to dabble much in Tuesday's's free-agency frenzy, the Jets made a small move, coming to terms with one of their own.

They agreed in principle with linebacker Bryan Thomas, who will remain the Jets' longest-tenured player. Financial details weren't immediately available, but Thomas' deal is for one year, according to a source.

The unrestricted free agent is recovering from an Achilles injury suffered Oct. 3. Thomas, who has spent his 10-year career with the Jets, is one of their most unheralded defenders. The 6-4, 265-pounder had 14 combined tackles and one pass defensed in three-plus games.

Thomas' deal was the only bit of news the Jets made as the free-agent market officially opened. They did put out a few feelers to players they were targeting, such as safety Brandon Meriweather, according to a source.

Meriweather was expected to meet with the Broncos, but no visit with the Jets has been planned, a source said. Meriweather intrigues the Jets because safeties Brodney Pool and Jim Leonhard are free agents.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Meriweather was cut by the Patriots before last season's opener and signed with the Bears, but he was benched for poor play.

The Jets also have reached out to Laurent Robinson, according to a source, but the former Cowboys receiver has several suitors. He's scheduled to visit with the Jaguars Wednesday.

Quarterback Chad Henne, another player the Jets had on their radar, is scheduled to visit the Jaguars and Seahawks.
