Jets sign DB Ronald Martin from practice squad

The safety shuffling continues for the Jets.
Just hours before their Thursday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills, they signed Ronald Martin to the 53-man roster and waived defensive lineman T.J. Barnes.
The Jets had no choice but to make another move with starting safety Calvin Pryor and recent pickup Dion Bailey both sidelined with high ankle sprains. But even with the addition of Martin -- signed from the practice squad -- coach Todd Bowles only has three healthy safeties for the game with the Bills: starter Marcus Gilchrist, longtime practice-squadder Rontez Miles (activated Saturday), and now Martin.
But neither Miles nor Martin have much NFL experience.
Miles made his only his second NFL appearance -- and first of this season -- last week in the Jets' win over the Jaguars. He played 10 defensive snaps, and on one took a noticeably bad angle on a 45-yard run by T.J. Yeldon.
Martin, an undrafted rookie out of LSU, has played in three games for the Jets this season, but only on special teams.
It's unclear which which safety will start opposite Gilchrist against the Bills. There's also a chance Bowles could use Marcus Williams again at safety -- though the second-year cornerback struggled at the position against the Raiders in Week 8.
But if Bowles decides to keep Williams at his natural position, that could mean Miles will make his first NFL start. "If I have to commit Marcus to corner, he might,'' Bowles said during his Tuesday news conference.
After the Jets were awarded Martin off waivers from Seattle on Sept. 6, they released Miles, a fan favorite.
The 6-2, 220-pound Martin had 11 tackles and two passes defensed with Seattle this preseason. The 22-year-old started 13 games as a senior and recorded a career-high 73 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass breakups.
The Jets waived Martin on Sept. 28 and signed him to their practice squad two days later.
