Jets still swaggerlicious
They've been buried and even ridiculed since they trudged off the New Meadowlands Stadium turf following their season-opening loss. You'd think the season is already over with the way people are laying into the Jets.
It might be surprising to some, given there are 15 games regular-season games left. But Rex Ryan isn't the least bit taken aback by the reaction on the heels of their 10-9 defeat to the Ravens on "Monday Night Football."
"No," Ryan said. "We know we’re going to get criticized if we don’t produce. It’s as simple as that. I’d rather it be this way where people expect you to win every week then, 'Well hey, they played hard. They did this and this.' Most guys would be talking about [the fact that Baltimore] had 35 rushing attempts and you held the team to 49 yards. That’s pretty decent against a Pro Bowl fullback, Pro Bowl tail back.
"Again, I don’t expect that. Here? No way. We opened up a new stadium. Our fans were into it beyond belief. That was the most disappointing thing to me. You can overcome a loss, but that was just a special night and it never turned out that way."
Ryan also said he didn't notice anything different from his troops during their first practice back at The Hangar since Monday's loss as they start preparing for the rival Patriots. In other words, he doesn't think they've lost their swagger and made that point crystal-clear when asked if the players had.
"No. We got beat," he said. "Our goals stay the same. I think the energy on the practice field was good. I think we’re excited about the plans. We know it’s a short week. The focus has got to be there. I challenged our guys to get more film work. We’ll see. Our guys want to play.
"Any time you get beat, you can’t wait to get back out there and compete again. We know we have an outstanding opponent in front of us. Quite honestly, we’ve got to do a better job in our own division. Last year, we had a poor record and, shoot, we want to win our division. New England stands in our way."
