Former Jets running back and kick returner Joe McKnight was fatally shot Thursday afternoon following an argument at an intersection in Terrytown, Louisiana, his agent confirmed.

NOLA.com reported that family members on the scene identified the victim as McKnight, a 2010 fourth-round draft pick of the Jets. He played three seasons with the Jets before joining the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014.

McKnight holds the Jets record for longest kickoff return, a 107-yarder against Baltimore in 2011. His 100-yard kickoff return against Houston in 2012 is the last time a Jet returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

McKnight was 28.

According to NOLA.com: “A witness, who declined to give her name, said she was leaving a store in the area when she saw a man at the intersection yelling at another man, who was trying to apologize. The man who was yelling shot the other man more than once, she said.

“She said the shooter shot the man, stood over him and said, ‘I told you don’t you [expletive] with me.’ Then he fired again, she said.”

The shooting was reported around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Berman Highway and Holmes Boulevard, NOLA.com reported.

McKnight, who was born in Kenner, Louisiana, was a high school standout and played in college at USC.
