CORTLAND – This time, Joe McKnight’s puking had nothing to do with poor conditioning.

The Jets third-year running back told me he had a “cheat day” on Tuesday and went to Applebees for dinner. And then he got food poisoning.

His meal?

The New York strip with shrimp.

McKnight was missing in action when the morning practice session began and later walked onto the field with a small yellow towel on his head. He spoke to head trainer John Mellody for a bit -- prompting many onlookers to think he was injured -- and then he stood and watched position and team drills.

A team spokesperson told reporters during practice that McKnight was sitting out due to an illness.

McKnight said he had an IV administered into his arm after throwing "all day." Jokingly, I asked if his vomiting session had anything to do with a lack of conditioning – as was the case in 2010, when he showed up to rookie minicamp out of shape. He took it in stride (or at least I think so) and said it had nothing to do with that.
