Joe Namath said he’s a fan of Adam Gase and he believes he will turn around the Jets.

“He’s going to build a winner,” Namath told the Jets' website. “I believe that and we’re going to give him a chance to do it.”

The Jets officially named Gase their new head coach Friday. Gase spent three years as the Dolphins coach, and made the playoffs just once. The Jets haven’t reached the playoffs in eight seasons. They’re hoping Gase can end that skid.

Namath, who led the Jets to their only Super Bowl, lives in South Florida. He has watched Gase’s work as the Dolphins coach and looks forward to what he can do for Sam Darnold and the Jets.

“He’s strong, he’s good,” Namath said. “He’s a disciplinarian. He’s an innovator and he can recognize talent.

“I’m a fan of Adam Gase. I know him. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him, watching him in press conferences and all. I really believe that he can take the team and help us grow.”
