L.T. visiting tomorrow, Jets lock up Pool

LaDainian Tomlinson is headed to New York. For a visit, that is.

After being wooed by the Vikings the past two days, the future Hall of Fame running back who was released by the Chargers is coming to meet with the Jets. But the Jets could be facing an uphill recruiting battle if they want Tomlinson's services.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, he left the Vikings' headquarters with a jersey in hand as he hopped into a stretch limo. Apparently, he was thoroughly impressed with what they offered up.

Tomlinson, as we know, isn't close to the same player that he was once was. But the Jets have an opening for a veteran running back after releasing Thomas Jones.

Seems like Tomlinson probably won't rush to an immediate decision, though. SI.com is reporting that he could visit the Eagles and Saints next week.

So, we'll have to wait and see what shakes out with this one.

While Tomlinson is the obvious headliner, the Jets are on the verge of finalizing a transaction with someone else who's been in for a visit. They've reached an agreement in principal with Cleveland free agent S Brodney Pool.

The deal is reportedly for one-year, $1.3 million.

In 11 games with Cleveland this past season, the 6-2, 210-pound Pool had 50 combined tackles, four interceptions, a sack and 11 passes defensed. He was a restricted free agent, but the Jets don't owe the Browns any draft pick compensation because he wasn't tendered by Cleveland.

Pool, 25, has been plagued by concussions throughout his five-year career. He suffered at least his fourth concussion in the past five seasons in Cleveland's 16-7 loss to the Bengals on Nov. 29, creating doubts about whether he'd continue his career.

But the Jets are obviously convinced he can still play. He gives them depth at the position after the franchise traded Kerry Rhodes to the Cardinals Saturday for a fourth-round pick in next month's draft and a 2011 seventh-rounder.

This move likely ends any speculation that Saints free agent S Darren Sharper could be bound for the Big Apple if things don't work out with New Orleans.
