Landry says he will appeal $15,750 fine

LaRon Landry said Thursday that he never worries about penalties and fines while in the moment of a game.

Well, today, the Jets safety was forced to confront the reality of his "kill shot" style approach. The dreaded FedEx “fine” envelope eventually found Landry – and included his $15,750 punishment for his 15-yard horse-collar penalty on Pittsburgh’s Aaron Brown in last week’s loss.

Rex Ryan expressed concern this week that Landry – who was flagged twice within a 10-minute span of play between the second and third quarters – would develop a reputation among referees (replacement or otherwise).

“It’s human nature to say, ‘Let me track this guy,’” the coach said Thursday, however, he added that Landry is known for hard, but clean, hits.

A short time later, Landry told reporters he was “not at all” worried about developing a reputation. “That all comes with my style of play,” he said. “I just got to be more cognizant of where I am on the field and just play a little smarter. But I won’t slow down.

“When I’m in the game, I’m not thinking about a penalty I’m about to have. I’m just playing a play to win, to do anything to help my team out. All the penalties, all the fines, I’m not really worried about. I’ll worry about that when the game’s over. But throughout the game, I’m just trying to make a play.”

Landry refused to disclose the amout of the fine to reporters, but said he planned to appeal. A league source provided the figure for his unnecessary roughness penalty Friday afternoon.
