LI’s Victor Ochi waived by Jets
Two weeks after making his NFL debut, Victor Ochi has been waived by the Jets, the team announced Saturday.
Ochi, a Valley Stream native and former Stony Brook edge rusher, played only a handful of snaps at outside linebacker during his two games with the Jets. He had one tackle, which came in his debut against the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 23.
Ochi joined the Jets’ practice squad on Sept. 12, a little more than a week after the undrafted free agent was waived by the Ravens during roster cutdowns. The Jets promoted him to their active roster the day before the game against the Ravens.
He had two sacks, five tackles and a forced fumble during the preseason for Baltimore.
Ochi can be claimed off waivers by any team. If there are no claims by Sunday, he could sign with any practice squad or re-sign with the Jets — either as a member of the active roster or the practice squad.
The Jets signed tight end Eric Tomlinson off the Houston Texans’ practice squad to fill Ochi’s roster spot. With Kellen Davis out for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins because of an elbow injury, the move brings the Jets back to three tight ends on the active roster.
