Looks like we won't see Sione Po'uha until September
CORTLAND, N.Y. -- See you in September, Sione.
Po'uha, who hasn't practiced since before the Jets' Aug. 4 scrimmage, said he likely will miss the rest of the preseason because of a "tight back." But the nose tackle expects to be ready for the regular-season opener against the Bills on Sept. 9.
Po'uha, 33, went to New York City to get a second opinion. Though he didn't say that the MRI results on his back were negative, Po'uha (who is out for Saturday's game against the Giants) indicated doctors didn't find anything. Coach Rex Ryan said Kenrick Ellis is doing a "nice job" filling in at nose tackle, but stressed it'll be a collective effort between Ellis, Mike DeVito, Quinton Coples, Mo Wilkerson and Marcus Dixon.
Santonio out til Sept.?
Santonio Holmes (rib) now has back tightness, according to Ryan. And as a result, the Jets' top receiver spent yesterday's practice inside getting treatment. Ryan conceded Holmes could be miss the rest of the preseason, but said: "I don't think that'll be the case."
Jets interested in Demps
The Jets reportedly are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Olympian Jeff Demps. A former running back and Florida teammate of Tim Tebow's, Demps went undrafted after he told NFL teams he wanted to pursue track. He won a silver medal as a member of the U.S. men's 4 x 100 relay.
