Jets rookie outside linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin felt the sacks were going to come. And he was right.
Mauldin teamed with Marcus Williams in the first quarter and combined with Sheldon Richardson in the second quarter for a pair of half-sacks in the Jets' 28-23 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. They were the first sacks he had been involved in this season, and he recorded the first solo sack of his career in the third quarter.
"It's obvious my role is just to go in and get the quarterback," he said.
Mauldin was a third-round draft pick. "It didn't matter where I went, but I'm glad the Jets drafted me,'' he said.. "I'm going to be me. That's what I do. I rush the passer. I use my speed. I have a fast motor. 'Don't give up on a play.' That's my mindset.''
