Ten days of contemplation has done little to change LaDainian Tomlinson's mind.
Reiterating some comments he made in the immediate aftermath of last weekend's AFC Championship loss to the Steelers, the veteran Jets running back is in Dallas this week and has told reporters that he still wants to play in 2011 -- even if he doesn't play as much.
"I would definitely like to play, no question," Tomlinson said Wednesday night at a fundraiser for his charitable foundation, Project 21. "Really and truly, I'm under contract, and I fully expect to play football with the Jets next year. Until I'm told otherwise, I just expect to be there."
He also told the Daily News that he is willing to accept a reduced role in 2011, and if he does wind up being released by the Jets - who have Shonn Greene and are expecting increased productivity from Joe McKnight - he would consider retirement.
Considering retirement may be a polite way of saying he will have very few options. He'll be 32 when the 2011 season starts (assuming there is one) and while he had a very strong 2010, not many teams will be willing to cough up the kind of money Tomlinson would require.
"Jim Brown said, 'You can love the game as much as you want. The game loves no one,'" Tomlinson told the Daily News. "It loves no one. People don't care about us a lot of times playing football. This is a business. I'm in the mindset of Jim [and] Barry Sanders. I get fed up with that business stuff."
