FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Robert Saleh met with Marcus Maye this week to discuss his February DUI arrest in Florida. Saleh called it "a really good conversation" and said the Jets are "supporting Marcus."
Saleh wouldn’t say whether he previously knew about Maye’s arrest. But it appears he didn’t. Saleh said the fifth-year safety approached him this week to discuss the matter. Maye’s Feb. 23 arrest in Fort Lauderdale was first reported on Monday night.
Asked if there are any trust issues since Maye waited seven months to speak to him about it, Saleh said he judges people on how they are around him.
"We’ve all made mistakes, and he recognizes the mistake he made," Saleh said. "I judge Marcus for how he’s been since I first met him. That really wasn’t until training camp.
"Marcus has been an outstanding teammate. He’s been an outstanding individual. His teammates absolutely love him. From my understanding he hasn’t had many issues as a young man. This is something that he’ll get through."
Maye faces three misdemeanor charges for DUI, DUI with damage to another property or person, and leaving the scene of a crash, according to court documents. A Zoom hearing is scheduled for Oct. 20.
Maye, who is sidelined with an ankle injury, also is subject to league suspension under the NFL’s personal conduct-policy.
Across the pond
The Jets will fly to London Thursday night for Sunday’s game against Atlanta. Saleh went to London three times as the Jaguars’ linebackers coach and found leaving Thursday is best for coaches and players.
Jacksonville left on a Sunday the first year. Saleh called it "a miserable week for a coach." The Jaguars lost. They flew on Thursday night the next two years and won both.
"For me at least and talking to players that was the best they felt on a Sunday," Saleh said.
Injury report
Denzel Mims attended meetings Wednesday, but the second-year wideout wasn’t feeling well and was sent home with a non-COVID-19 illness . . . Wide receiver Elijah Moore (concussion) was limited in practice. Saleh expects Moore to play Sunday. Defensive lineman Nathan Shepherd (knee) didn’t practice, but Saleh said he would play. Tight end Tyler Kroft (back) also didn’t practice.

Former Saint Sheldon Rankins compared linebacker C.J. Mosley’s play thus far to New Orleans’ linebacker Demario Davis, an ex-Jet. "It’s pretty special to watch," Rankins said . . . Linebacker Blake Cashman returned to practice from injured reserve. He injured his hamstring in Week 1. The Jets have 21 days to activate Cashman . . . The Jets signed defensive back Natrell Jamerson to the practice squad.
