Mark Sanchez believes Jets are 'built' to make playoff push

CORTLAND – For Mark Sanchez, there are no “ifs” when it comes to reaching the postseason. Each summer, regardless of their roster, the playoffs are within sight.
The fifth-year quarterback has felt that every year. And 2013 is no different.
“I think you have to [assume that],” Sanchez said Wednesday, responding to quotes he made about the playoffs in a recent Los Angeles Times article.
“You have to have that mentality that this team is built to last; we’re built to make a strong run and get hot at the right time; to sustain some injuries and then move on from it and get guys healthy as soon as possible. I mean, it’s natural. It happens every year. But I feel like we have the talent to make that happen and right now it’s about realizing that talent on the field.”
On paper, though, the Jets don't look like a team destined for the playoffs -- let alone .500 football. But that's the beauty of July and August: Hope is at an all-time high.
Rex Ryan admitted he's using the comments of their detractors as ammunition.
The Jets rank last (32nd overall) in ESPN's power rankings for 2013 -- behind the Jaguars, Raiders and Browns. (Newsday's Bob Glauber has the Jets ranked No. 30.)
But those slights have been used as a rallying cry.
