Derrick Mason's grasp of the Jets' offense is progressing.
The veteran wide receiver has been putting in extra time trying to learn the inner workings of the Jets' system, doing his best to understand the verbiage and particulars of each play.
"It's picking up a little bit better because now we've got everything in the playbook, and now it's just repetition," said Mason, who's expected to primarily be the slot receiver but probably will line up in the other three receiver positions at times. "So now I'm able to pick it up a little bit quicker than I did last week. It's getting better and it's only going to get better as we continue to go in preseason. I'm pretty sure by first game of the season, I'll be fine."
Scott can't wait for PTBart Scott has been on the field for one snap in the Jets' first two preseason games, rolling his left leg on the very first play on defense against the Texans in the opener. So he is excited about playing against the Giants Monday night, knowing this is the final true regular-season tuneup.
"It's extremely important," the linebacker said, "especially playing against a great team like this that prides itself on running the football. It will be a great test for the linebackers and also for the D-linemen."
LT: Moore should helpThe Jets' rushing attack hasn't been firing on all cylinders, and Rex Ryan said he wants to see a bit more out of their ground game. LaDainian Tomlinson hopes the return of right guard Brandon Moore will provide a boost.
Moore began training camp on the physically unable to perform list while recovering from offseason hip surgery, but he was in on a lot of team drill reps throughout the past week in practice. He is expected to play against the Giants.
