NASHVILLE -- Greg McElroy is inactive for Monday night's game against the Titans.

Rex Ryan floated the idea last week of starting the former Alabama standout, but the Jets coach maintained he felt more comfortable with Tim Tebow as his No. 2.

"I feel better about Tim in that role," Ryan said in the lead-up to the Jets' must-win road game. "That’s what I’ll always do, and everyone is tired of me saying it, but I feel (Tim) gives us the best opportunity. That’s why I’ve said all along that he’s our number-two quarterback. That’s how I feel."

Asked if McElroy would be active Monday, the coach said: "That’s a possibility, but each week is different. You look at your roster and where you’re at, there could be some injuries. Could this guy play? This guy is active. Maybe you need insurance at a different position. I’m not sure, but I think it’s something I’ll consider."

It appears Braylon Edwards will make good on his promise of playing in primetime. The recently-signed wide receiver was limited in practice with a balky hamstring -- the same injury that caused the Seahawks to release him last week.

Neither he, nor Ryan, would give an estimate on Edwards' playing time.

"I remain optimistic about Monday night," the coach said Saturday. "How much he’ll play, we’ll see, but I’m optimistic he’ll be ready for Monday night."

Edwards ran routes pre-game, catching passes from his good friend, quarterback Mark Sanchez. At the end of the drill, the two walked towards each other and shared a fist-bump and a hug.
