Jets great Joe Namath thinks beleaguered quarterback Mark Sanchez has a lot of winning football ahead of him – just not with the Jets.
“He’s not as bad as he’s played this year,” Namath said of Sanchez on ESPN radio’s Mike & Mike in the Morning Wednesday. “I think he’s going to be around for a long time. For his sake, I hope it’s not with the Jets.”
In defending Sanchez, Namath -- the organization’s only Super Bowl champion MVP -- put the blame on the Jets front office and coaching staff. “I know he’s gotten a bad shake,” he said. “I don’t think he’s had the right kind of coaching. I don’t think he’s had the right kind of help offensively.
“It’s a team game. I know Mark’s looked really bad the last several games, and he has played poorly. But I do believe he is not as bad a quarterback as he’s made out to be. He does have a future in the NFL. With the Jets? I don’t see it. I really don’t.
Namath went on to say Sanchez “deserves better at this stage” in his career, when it comes to the offensive weapons at his disposal.
