New York Jets fall to Minnesota Vikings in OT

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jarius Wright turned a short gain into a game-winner.

Wright took a short pass from Teddy Bridgewater on third down and rumbled 87 yards to give the Vikings a 30-24 victory in overtime over the New York Jets at TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday.

It was the Vikings' second overtime victory by touchdown this season; earlier they won at Tampa Bay on an Anthony Barr fumble return.

Bridgewater, who has displayed a penchant for late-game heroics in his young NFL career, led another game-winning drive.

Bridgewater completed 19 of his 27 attempts for 309 yards and two touchdowns.

Sunday's game had a wild start, too, to go with that thrilling finish.

Outside linebacker Gerald Hodges, starting place of the injured Barr, intercepted Jets quarterback Geno Smith's first pass and returned it 27 yards for a touchdown. The play, which took 12 seconds, tied for the fastest defensive score in Vikings history.

It was the first of six scores in the first 17 minutes, including a Jets safety when Bridgewater was sacked in the end zone and fullback Jerome Felton recovering a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown after wide receiver Charles Johnson fumbled while reaching for the goal line.

The Jets, who relied heavily on their running game, chipped away at the Vikings' 21-12 lead, though, and tied the game early in the fourth quarter.

After a well-placed punt by Jeff Locke downed at the 5-yard line and a quick three-and-out produced by the defense, the Vikings got the ball at the Jets' 47-yard line. Bridgewater connected with Johnson for a 17-yard gain and Wright moved the Vikings to the 7-yard line with a 23-yard run. But the drive stalled and the Vikings settled for a field goal to reclaim the lead with 5:28 left.

The Jets drove down the field to tie the game again, at 24-24, on another field goal from Jets kicker Nick Folk with 23 seconds left. Smith made the key play on the possession, spinning out of a sack to scramble 18 yards into field goal range.

Kicker Blair Walsh had a chance to win the game for the Vikings at the end of regulation. But his 56-yard field goal attempt fell well short of the uprights, sending the game to overtime.

Former Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin had a productive day for the Jets with six catches for 124 yards and a touchdown, which came when he snatched a jump ball over cornerback Josh Robinson.

Johnson had four catches for 104 yards. He scored in the first quarter when he got behind the Jets defense and Bridgewater hit him in stride with a deep ball for a 56-yard connection.

The Vikings, who improved to 6-7, will travel next weekend to Detroit for a rematch with the Lions, who beat them 17-3 back in Week 6. The Lions are 9-4 after beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
