CORTLAND, N.Y. - Nick Mangold kept his word. Kind of.

The Pro Bowl center, who's in the final year of his deal and slated to earn $3.3 million this season, said he wasn't going to hold out and planned on showing up for the start of training camp with bells on. He showed up, sans bells.

"I'm a football player," he said. "Camp is what you do. It's just one of those things that I decided after thinking about every option and everything to be here, and to put my best foot forward, and to try to have a good time up here in beautiful Cortland."

He supports Darrelle Revis' holdout. "He's got to do what he's got to do," he said. "I don't hold anything against him. He's got to do what he thinks is best, and more power to him for whatever he needs to get done."

Holmes excused

Santonio Holmes' mandatory report date has been pushed back to Wednesday. He received clearance to spend more time with his son after a surgical procedure.

"To all the fans wondering why I didn't show up to camp today is because I was given permission to be with my son who just had surgery a few days ago," he wrote on his Twitter page. "I'm eager to get on the field n have fun with my new compadres!"

Biggest loser

The weight-loss challenge goes to Kris Jenkins. The massive nose tackle dropped 33.6 pounds and weighs 359. He beat out Damien Woody, who finished second by dropping 26.2 pounds to get down to 340. Rex Ryan was a distant third, even though he's lost a total of 55 pounds since last season - not all of them counted - and hovers at 291. "I feel like I'm in the best shape I've been in in a while," Jenkins said.

Extra points

OLB Jason Taylor said his shoulder has healed nicely after offseason surgery. Taylor has been limited since the Jets signed him in the spring, but he's hopeful he'll be able to start doing more in practice and thinks he'll be a full go today . . . RB Joe McKnight passed his conditioning test. He initially failed it Thursday.
