Shea Stadium bids farewell to football

The Jets played their final home game at Shea Stadium and lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 34-7. The Jets called Shea their home for 20 years, from 1964-83, and hosted three playoff games. The final game also was the final appearance for Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw, who returned after 11 months from surgery on his right arm and played until early in the second quarter. Bradshaw was 5-for-8 for 77 yards and two touchdowns, leaving the game with a 14-0 lead. Franco Harris ran for 103 yards on 26 carries. Jets quarterbacks Pat Ryan (6-for-18, 127 yards, one touchdown, one interception) and Richard Todd (11-for-20, 114 yards, two interceptions) totaled three interceptions as the Jets turned the ball over five times. Jets receiver Lam Jones had seven catches for 146 yards and the team's only touchdown, a 27-yarder from Ryan in the third quarter.
