Yesterday, after Rex Ryan said Thursday's preseason finale was "critical" for Kevin O'Connell, I sought the third-year quarterback out once he came into the locker room.

O'Connell had about three minutes before he had to get to a meeting, so he said he didn't have time, telling me "I'll catch you tomorrow."

Looks like I won't get that chance.

The Jets announced O'Connell has been waived. It's not overly surprising with the way O'Connell has played through the preseason, completing 8 of 16 passes for 70 yards. He also threw a pair of bad interceptions and sported a quarterback rating of 22.4.

O'Connell's banishment is a good thing for Kellen Clemens. As we mentioned yesterday, Rex said there's a strong possibility of Clemens making the roster. Guess we now know why he felt that way.

So Clemens is safe -- for now. But as Clemens said yesterday, things happen.
