Randy Moss, Percy Harvin offer different views of Jets' secondary

Minnesota's second-half comeback might have fallen short in a 29-20 loss to the Jets Monday night, but Vikings quarterback Brett Favre and wide receivers Randy Moss and Percy Harvin connected for three touchdown passes and proved even All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis and former Pro Bowl corner Antonio Cromartie can be beaten just like mortal defenders.

Moss hauled in a 37-yard touchdown bomb over Cromartie, and Harvin beat Revis twice touchdowns of 34 and 11 yards, the first on a deep fly route up the left sideline and the second on a slant where he lost Revis, who was coming back from a hamstring injury, in traffic. Harvin finished with five catches for 97 yards and a 19.4 average gain, and Moss caught four balls for 81 yards and a 20.3 average.

"We opened it up a little more in the second half," Harvin said. "In the first half, we played right into their hands. We knew their DBs couldn't lock up with us one-on-one. In the second half, we moved the ball very easily."

Although Moss has exchanged barbs with Revis in the past, he was far less inclined than Harvin dump on the Jets' coverage ability. Having been shut down by them in the past, maybe he knows better. Moss said the Jets' corners remind him of the old Kansas City Chiefs pair of Dale Carter and James Hasty.

"It's hard to throw on them on both sides," Moss said of the Jets' pair. "I give them credit."

Favre's third TD pass to Harvin came with 3:09 left and cut the Jets' lead to 22-20. The Vikings got the ball back at their own 16 with 1:48 left, plenty of time for Favre to produce one of his miracles. But the aging QB, who admitted having some soreness in his throwing arm, overthrew Moss on a sideline pattern on first down and then totally overthrew a wide-open Harvin on second down.

"I missed throws on the last two drives that I make in my sleep," Favre said.

Harvin just shook his head about the opportunity that was lost on second down. He admitted pushing off Revis to get open. "If we connect on that one, it would have broken the game open," Harvin said. "It would've gone 80 yards. That's one I wish we had back."

Favre wishes he had the next one on third down back as well. Looking for Visanthe Shiancoe on a slant from the right side, Favre had trouble seeing him and slid to his right, believing Shiancoe had single coverage. Wrong. He was bracketed inside and outside with Dwight Lowery breaking on the ball from the inside to make the interception and take it 26 yards to the house for the final 29-20 margin.

After the game, Moss was asked about reports that his trade to Minnesota was precipitated by a locker room fight with New England quarterback Tom Brady. Moss smiled and said, "Tom sent me a text message today." Then, looking directly into ESPN's camera, he added, "Tom, I know you're watching, brother. I appreciate the text. Sorry we didn't bring it home buddy, but I appreciate the text."
