The cap-strapped Cowboys are seeking upgrades on a budget (sound familiar?) – and those roster additions could entail former Jets free agent Matt Slauson.

According to ESPNDallas.com, Dallas -- which currently is only $177,005 under the salary cap -- has had conversations with “second-tier free agents” like Slauson, a left guard a left guard, Giants free-agent linebacker Chase Blackburn and former Bears defensive end Amobi Okoye.

Callahan, the Cowboys offensive coordinator/offensive line coach, served as the Jets’ assistant head coach and offensive line coach from 2008-11. More importantly, he was Slauson’s college coach at Nebraska.

The Giants have also expressed interest in Slauson, who is expected not to return for a fifth season.
