Revis' advice to Wilson: "Learn fast."

Back in 2007, the Jets traded away one draft pick after another just to have the chance to snatch Darrelle Revis. The Aliquippa kid and Pitt product just had too many talents to ignore, so the Jets felt they had to take a chance.

There was a time, not too long ago, when the Jets also had confidence in Kyle Wilson. That, of course, no longer is the case. So I talked to Revis today about the pressures the rookie is facing and the danger in losing one’s self-confidence.

“When I got back here I just told him to learn fast,” said the Jets cornerback, who started all 16 games as a rookie and finished with 87 total tackles (74 solo), 17 passes defended and three INTs. “There’s a lot of stuff the coaches are going to throw at him, so he just needs to be patient and learn fast.

"But also, don’t get discouraged. It’s kind of tough when you’re in the mix and then you suddenly get out the mix. You just always have to keep your eyes on the prize and just always work every day. I mean, he has been doing that. He’s enjoying himself and the only thing to do is get better. That’s the only thing he needs to think, is just get better week in and week out.”

Both head coach Rex Ryan and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine believe Wilson’s confidence is shaken. Revis told me, that's understandable.

“If anybody loses their starting spot, yeah anybody would be discouraged,” he said. “I wouldn’t put it all on Kyle. If I lost my spot I’d be discouraged. That’s just human nature. But the one thing that’s good is, he’s young. It’s not like he’s in his 10, 12th year and he’s been starting for seven or eight and he just lost his job. Right now it’s a learning curve for him and he just has to take it in stride and just keep on building every day.”
