Revis ticketed for speeding; playing status 'questionable'

Ordinarily, the Jets would be pleased to learn that Darrelle Revis was able to reach top speed despite a sore hamstring. Unfortunately, the news came with a speeding ticket.
Revis was issued citations for speeding and careless driving Thursday morning in Livingston, N.J., where police say he was clocked doing 81 miles per hour in a 40-mph zone.
The incident first was reported Thursday by JetsConfidential.com, and Revis addressed it after practicing on a limited basis for the second straight day. Because of the excessive speed at which he allegedly was traveling, Revis cannot simply pay his tickets but must appear in court Nov. 4 at 9 a.m., according to the Livingston Municipal Court administrator. But if the cornerback obtains a lawyer, he can waive his first appearance.
Revis indicated he won't fight the tickets, saying: "I was speeding. I didn't see the speedometer, but a cop wouldn't pull you over just to pull you over."
General manager Mike Tannenbaum and coach Rex Ryan met with Revis to discuss the incident and warned him to be more careful as a high-profile Jet. Teammate Braylon Edwards recently was cited for a violation of driving while impaired.
"I'm not a speedster," Revis said. "I don't do that. I was a little late for work, and I was just trying to get here. You face the consequences when you speed."
Ryan said Revis' lateness was "not an excuse" to put anyone else or himself at risk. "That's a reminder for all of us," Ryan said.
Jets owner Woody Johnson, who appeared at JFK for the unveiling of a new team plane by sponsor JetBlue, declined comment on Revis' driving infraction because he wasn't aware of the details. But Johnson endorsed the team's handling of Revis' hamstring problem.
"I have full faith and confidence in our medical team and also in our coaches," Johnson said. "We made the right decision [to play Revis last Monday night against the Vikings]."
Although he ran well in practice for the second day since sitting out Wednesday's practice, Revis was listed as questionable and sounded skeptical about playing Sunday in Denver before a bye week.
"A hamstring is tricky," Revis said. "I could feel 100 percent one day and the next morning, I could feel a little bit of tightness. One thing I can say about this whole week is that it has been progressing every day and getting better and I haven't felt any tightness through this whole week. It's a question that's up in the air right now. If Rex gives me the go-ahead, I'll play."
The Jets flew to Denver on Friday night, and Ryan said he'll make a decision on Revis after a light workout Saturday. "If he's not feeling well, then we're not going to do it," Ryan said. "I will say I've been impressed by the way he's looked the past couple of days."
Notes & quotes: Every other Jet, including LB Calvin Pace (foot), was listed as probable . . . Five Denver defenders, including three starters - S Brian Dawkins (knee), CB Andre Goodman (quadriceps) and LB Robert Ayers (foot) - are listed as out . . . Jets WR Santonio Holmes' denial that he accepted payments from an agent in college was accepted after a brief inquiry by Ohio State.
