Rex doesn't close door on Maybin return

Rex Ryan was extremely complimentary of Aaron Maybin, the outside linebacker the Jets cut on Tuesday.
The Jets coach praised Maybin’s work ethic, but the decision came down to production – or, lack thereof.
“Not saying that he won’t be back,” Ryan said of the loquacious linebacker, who had just one tackle and no sacks in eight games this season. “But you have to do what you think is in the best interest of your football team. I like Aaron. I love the way he plays, he flies around. …(But) the numbers have been there this year for him.”
Rex added that he’s been “encouraged” by the play of recently promoted linebacker Ricky Sapp.
Maybin – who received the news that he was cut while at a Jets charity event Tuesday in the Bronx – was a healthy scratch Sunday in Seattle, in favor of Sapp – who was activated off the practice squad Oct. 8.
