FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Jets coach Rex Ryan made it clear before Tuesday's minicamp practice that Tim Tebow would take reps only with the second team.
There won't be any quarterback controversy between Tebow and starter Mark Sanchez -- at least not this week.
"No, he will be running with the twos and that's where he'll be running," the coach said when asked if Tebow will get any first-team reps during their three minicamp days.
Though he didn't take reps with the starters during the team portion of Tuesday's drills, Tebow did take walk-through snaps with the first-team.
He remains the team's backup quarterback and continues to serve roles in Wildcat-type plays and on special teams.
Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano said he doesn't give much thought to the prospect of Tebow, a versatile offensive piece, getting injured on special teams plays.
"Those are not my decisions," said the coordinator, who added that Tebow's mechanics have increasingly gotten better. "But if it's going to help the New York Jets and our football team win games, then I'm all for it."
