Jerricho Cotchery

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Rex Ryan still won't rule out Damien Woody and Jerricho Cotchery for Thursday night's Thanksgiving matchup with the Bengals.

Ryan said Woody's MRI on Monday revealed a sprained MCL in the right tackle's right knee and there's no structural damage. Woody didn't practice Tuesday and just pedaled away on the stationary bike before getting more treatment.

As for Cotchery, the wideout is still nursing that slight groin tear and also didn't practice Tuesday, meaning he'll almost certainly be inactive for a second straight game.

Asked which player he believes has the better shot of playing, Ryan said: "I think D. Wood has and I say Damien because I don't see him sprinting a lot. But Jerricho, having to get in and out of breaks, there's still a chance. But if I was a betting man, I would say D. Wood would have a better chance."

Pettine not pleased

Mike Pettine joked that he promised offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer that he'd be sending a big thank you card over to the offensive meeting room after they bailed the defense out yet again thanks to their game-winning, five-play, 72-yard drive in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Texans. But the defensive coordinator knows it's time for his unit to crank it up a few notches.

"Our standards are set high on defense," Pettine said. "What's happening to us in these situations, especially in the last two, are things that we need to get corrected."

Extra points

Ryan was tabbed as the coach - other than their own, of course - players would like to suit up for in this week's Sports Illustrated poll. Ryan garnered 21 percent of the vote, followed by Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin (12 percent) and New Orleans' Sean Payton (9 percent). A total of 279 NFL players participated in the poll.
