FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The MRI on Mark Sanchez's throwing shoulder was strictly precautionary, Jets coach Rex Ryan insisted. But the topic of conversation didn't end there.

"I probably shouldn't have said anything," Ryan joked Monday after being peppered with questions about the health of his quarterback. "Now that's going to be our story. Oh, no."

The coach began his news conference by rehashing the team's 22-17 win in Pittsburgh, then dropped the dreaded buzzwords regarding the face of his franchise: "We're a little beat up. Mark even was sore. His shoulder's pretty sore. For precaution, we had him go get an MRI . . . He'll play, obviously, Sunday."

Ryan didn't seem concerned about the injury, which he said the quarterback suffered on the Jets' second drive of the game.

"His arm was in an awkward position; it never affected him," the coach said. "He played the whole game . . . As somebody said, 'Maybe this should happened to you in all these games, because he played great.' He really did. He played fantastic."

The coach called Sanchez's MRI a "positive thing for us" an said he will play against the Bears in Chicago. Ryan said he expects Sanchez to be limited "a little bit" in practice this week, as was the case last week.

Ellis being sued

Defensive end Shaun Ellis told reporters he found out that he is being sued by a Seattle Seahawks fan via text message Monday morning.

"I was like, 'OK, cool,' " said Ellis, who didn't offer much detail about the lawsuit because it's "a pending legal matter . . . I guess the statute of limitations [hasn't run out]."

After a road loss to the Seahawks on Dec. 21, 2008, the Jets were pelted with snow by fans as they walked off the field. Ellis picked up a block of snow and threw it into the crowd. The chunk of snow hit Robert Lawson, who claims he suffered physical injury, humiliation, mental distress, pain and wage loss, according to TMZ.com.

"Any time you go into a situation like that, you're definitely concerned," said Ellis, who was fined $10,000 by the league for the incident. "It's two years removed. I have to let the courts handle it and see what happens from there."
