Mark Sanchez set the record straight -- yet again -- for football fans anticipating an unworkable relationship developing between him and Tim Tebow.

He is the starter. Tebow is the back-up quarterback. And they’re becoming fast friends.

That basically was the gist of Sanchez’s spiel after Thursday’s offseason conditioning workout.

“It’s been nothing but positive to this point and that’s the way I anticipate it (being) in the future,” said Sanchez, who complimented Tebow’s competitive fire on the field and in the weight room.

“He’s been great,” he continued. “Everything as advertised. As positive, as competitive, as fun to be around as everybody has already mentioned. I didn’t expect anything different and that’s exactly what he’s been, so it’s been great to work with him.”

Several reporters camped out in front of Tebow’s locker before the back-up QB even entered the room -- some didn’t leave their perch for more than an hour.

And when Tebow finally spoke, he had nothing but good things to say about Sanchez and his opportunity with the Jets.

“I can’t wait to get into the stadium actually,” he said of playing at MetLife Stadium. “That’ll be a lot of fun.”

Tebow, however, wouldn’t bite when asked if his goal was to be the starting QB.

“I just go out there every single day and compete as much as I can,” he said. “...Even though it’s only been three or four weeks, I feel like I’ve got a great relationship with a lot of the guys in this locker room.”

Sanchez said he’s not worried about Tebow coming and taking his job -- in fact, he welcomes the challenge.

“I hope every backup quarterback wants the job of the starter,” he said. “That’s the way you have to prepare. I’ve been in those shoes in college -- anticipating the game, studying like I’m the starter and then getting to the game and not playing. Fortunately for Tim, he has the ability to do other things. That’s why he’s on board. He’s a backup quarterback first and then he’ll do plenty of other stuff.”

But so far, Tebow has only worked out at quarterback.

Based on what players said, the Jets have spent the past few weeks working on basic stuff -- meaning no Wildcat, no special packages or trick plays. That, will come in time. Tebow also said he hasn’t been told by the coaching staff that he’ll be used on special teams.
