In an expected move, the Jets announced Thursday that they have signed LB Ricky Sapp to the active roster and added rookie draft pick Antonio Allen to the practice squad.

"He has been a handful for us to block in practice," Rex Ryan said Thursday of Sapp, who he was particularly high on in training camp prior to the linebacker suffering a high ankle sprain.

Sapp, originally a fifth-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2010, has been shuttled between the practice squad and active roster several times -- Case in point: he was signed to the p-squad on Oct. 31, 2011; added to the active roster on Dec. 29, 2011 before the final regular season game; joined to the Jets practice squad on Sept. 9, 2012) after being waived following the final preseason game; was released from the practice squad three days later and then re-signed to the practice squad on Sept. 11, 2012.

Allen, a seventh-round pick by the Jets in April, was signed to the active roster last month and waived on Tuesday after playing in three games.
