FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Brian Schottenheimer's name is being thrown around in South Florida, mentioned among possible candidates as the Dolphins search for a replacement for the fired Tony Sparano.

But the Jets' offensive coordinator said Thursdaythat the Miami job isn't on his radar, and he's perfectly fine with the situation and environment he finds himself in with the Jets.

"I'm just happy to have a job," Schottenheimer said. "A few weeks ago, if you would've asked people, I'd be lucky to have a job."

Schottenheimer said he's focused on the immediate task, which is trying to help the Jets reach the playoffs for the third consecutive season.

"This is the time of year for people to speculate and talk, and this is the time of year for us to work," he said. "We're trying to make a push. We've played well this time of year the last couple of years. Hopefully, we're hitting that stride. Again, I'm thrilled where I'm at and hopefully we can take this thing a long way."

Pettine: PSU? Not true

A report surfaced last week on FootballScoop.com suggesting that Mike Pettine is a potential candidate for the Penn State head-coaching job. But the Jets' defensive coordinator struck that down Thursday, making it clear he has no interest in returning to his native Keystone State to coach in Happy Valley.

"No, I'm thrilled where I am," Pettine said. "There's not much interest there. There hasn't been contact either way. So I just think that was somebody that did the math -- Pennsylvania background, opening at a Pennsylvania school.

"So I guess the next will be I'm up for the Pitt job."

Extra pointsCB Marquice Cole (knee) didn't practice and Rex Ryan said it's not looking good for the special-teams standout to play Sunday against the Eagles . . . S Brodney Pool on stepping in for Jim Leonhard: "It's not anything new. I've played in this league, started in this league before. It's sad to see Jim go down, but the next man has to step up. I have a job to do and I'm going to do it to the best of my ability."
